Those were the words of Bruny Pierre Richard, Captain of the Haitian National Team, DIGICEL Man of the Final Match and Most Valuable Player of the Caribbean Cup, voted by the media and the fans of 25 islands.
The last time any Haitian Team had given such joy to the Haitian people was in 1979 when Haiti won that same trophy in Paramaribo, Surinam, by defeating the host country 2-0. Prior to that was in December, 1973 when Haiti qualified for the World Cup in Germany 1974.
A spontaneous crowd of over 100,000 jubilant people appeared at Toussaint Louverture Airport and blocked Airport Road for five hours to welcome the Haitian Team returning from Trinidad with their prized trophy. The cortege finally went to Petionville where DIGICEL had a reception for them and then on to The Champs de Mars where they were greeted by another awaiting crowd. The celebrations went on until the wee hours of the morning. Haitians had not had much to rejoice about in many years.
